IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT

UN SIMPLE ACCIDENT

JAFAR PANAHI

IRAN | FRANCE | LUXEMBOURG / PERSIAN / 2025 / 103 mins

When an auto mechanic encounters the man who may have been his torturer in prison, he kidnaps him to exact vengeance. But since the sole clue to Eghbal’s identity is the squeak of his prosthetic leg, Vahid turns to other now-freed victims for confirmation. And the danger only escalates.

Jafar Panahi, (b. 1960 in Mianeh, Iran), is one of world cinema’s most courageous filmmakers. After studying at the Iran Broadcasting University, he directed his debut THE WHITE BALLOON (1995), which won the Caméra d’Or at Cannes. Films such as THE MIRROR (1997), THE CIRCLE (2000), CRIMSON GOLD (2003), and OFFSIDE (2006) gained international acclaim while being banned in his home country for their critique of society and women’s rights. Despite arrests, imprisonment, and a filmmaking ban, Panahi continued making defiant works including THIS IS NOT A FILM (2011), TAXI TEHRAN (2015), 3 FACES (2018), and NO BEARS (2022).
