Spring 1945, Amrum Island. In order to assist his mother provide for the family during the last days of the war, 12-year-old Nanning works the local farm, goes fishing at night, and braves the risky sea to hunt seals. Life on the stunning, windswept island feels almost like heaven despite the challenges. However, a greater threat is revealed when peace eventually arrives, the adversary is much closer than he had anticipated.

Fatih Akin (b. 1973), is a German-Turkish director, his key focus is on the issues of cultural conflict, migration, and identity. He made his debut with SHORT SHARP SHOCK (1998) while studying visual communications at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg. HEAD-ON (2004, Berlin Golden Bear), THE EDGE OF HEAVEN (2007, Cannes Best Screenplay), SOUL KITCHEN (2009), and IN THE FADE (2017, Golden Globe) were his breakout productions.
