In 1972, young East German officer Fritz arrives in Cuba during the ceremonial transfer of Isla Ernesto Thälmann, a symbolic gift from Fidel Castro to the GDR. Tasked with preventing a CIA assassination attempt, Fritz quickly finds himself disoriented by the unfamiliar rhythm of the island and the limits of his training. When he meets the enigmatic Lola, his rigid sense of duty begins to soften. As politics, desire, and confusion intertwine, Fritz confronts the fragile line between ideology and humanity under a foreign sun.

Pavel Giroud (b. 1972) is a Cuban filmmaker based in Madrid. He studied design at Havana’s Instituto Superior de Diseño, a background that strongly shapes his visual style and interest in cultural history. His films include THE SILLY AGE (2006), Cuba’s submission to the Academy Awards, OMERTÀ (2008), THE COMPANION (2015), and the documentaries PLAYING LECUONA (2015) and THE PADILLA AFFAIR (2022). His work explores identity, art, and political memory. THE PADILLA AFFAIR won Best Documentary at the 10th Platino Awards, while PLAYING LECUONA received international prizes in Montréal and New York.
