A USEFUL GHOST
PEE CHAI DAI KA
March is mourning his wife Nat who has recently passed away due to dust pollution. He discovers her spirit has returned by possessing a vacuum cleaner. Disturbed by a ghost that appeared after a worker's death shut down their factory, his family reject their unconventional human-ghost relationship. Trying to convince them of their love, Nat offers to cleanse the factory. To become a useful ghost, she must first get rid of the useless ones.
ಧೂಳಿನ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯದಿಂದ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನಿಧನಳಾದ ತನ್ನ ಪತ್ನಿ ನ್ಯಾಟ್ನ ದುಃಖದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ ಮುಳುಗಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯ ಸಂಗತಿಯೆಂದರೆ, ನ್ಯಾಟ್ನ ಆತ್ಮವು ವ್ಯಾಕ್ಯೂಮ್ ಕ್ಲೀನರ್ ಅನ್ನು ಆವರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮರಳಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕನ ಸಾವಿನ ಬಳಿಕ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಭೂತದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಮುಚ್ಚಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಫ್ಯಾಕ್ಟರಿಯ ಘಟನೆ, ಮಾರ್ಚ್ನ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಕದಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಾನವ–ಭೂತಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಈ ಅಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಕುಟುಂಬದವರು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ನಂಬಿಸಲು, ನ್ಯಾಟ್ ಫ್ಯಾಕ್ಟರಿಯನ್ನು ‘ಶುದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸುವ’ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಒಬ್ಬಳು ‘ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಕಾರಿ ಭೂತ’ ಆಗಲು, ಮೊದಲು ಆಕೆ ‘ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವಿಲ್ಲದ’ ಭೂತಗಳನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke is a Bangkok based filmmaker of Teochew Hainanese descent who studied film at Chulalongkorn University. His background includes work as a screenwriter, lecturer in film theory and scriptwriting, and film critic. His filmography includes the short film RED ANINSRI OR TIPTOEING ON THE STILL TREMBLING BERLIN WALL (2020) and his debut feature A USEFUL GHOST (2025). His work explores history, memory, and Thailand’s postcolonial condition through formally inventive storytelling. His awards include Berlinale Talents and the Junior Jury Award at Locarno IFF.
